In the late 1950s, Teun Mendel started his journey to craftsmanship in a simple shed at the back of his house. His goal? The production of cutting tools for the rattan industry, which was flourishing primarily in Germany. His brother, Renger Jan Mendel, soon decided to join him. <\/p>\n

A leap towards growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Teun and Renger made a big step forward by moving to a factory building in Apeldoorn. Here, they started not only manufacturing cutting tools, but also developing machinery for cutting rattan. <\/p>\n

This period marked a time of considerable growth and development for the company. The official registration with the Chamber of Commerce on 1-1-1960 sealed their status as a company, from that date onwards known as: Gebroeders Mendel (Mendel Brothers). <\/p>\n

A new direction<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As in any story, the 1960s brought changes. German rattan factories began moving their production to the Far East and this also forced Mendel Brothers to adjust their course. <\/p>\n

They decided to concentrate on cutting rattan themselves into semi-finished products for the furniture industry and craft applications, among others. Despite these changes, their commitment to quality remained undiminished. <\/p>\n

On 1-1-1980, Tonny and Hans, Teun\u2019s sons, joined the firm. And in 1993, they took over running the company and have since been steadfastly continuing the legacy of their father and uncle. <\/p>\n

Exploring new opportunities
<\/strong><\/span>With a keen eye for innovation, they have explored new opportunities, ventured into new markets and forget new partnerships. But through it all, they have remained true to the core values that made Gebr. Mendel great: craftsmanship, integrity and commitment to quality. <\/p>\n

Connected by passion
<\/strong><\/span>The legacy of Teun Mendel live on in the work of his sons. Tonny and Hans bear responsibility not only for the survival of Gebr. Mendel, but also for carrying on his vision and passion. As they look to the future, they remain firmly anchored in the company\u2019s rich history and traditions. <\/p>\n
